Strange how I don't feel the slightest tinge of regret while helping myself to a plateful of escargot; yet feel so overly remorseful for having accidentally crushed a snail underfoot. And I don't think it was simply hearing the sickeningly wrong cracking sound either.
Guess I'm someone who doesn't like to get his hands dirty (not merely in the literal sense of the word) while enjoying the result of someone else doing just that. Disgusting.
Is condoning something or - even worse - gaining in the process any different from partaking in it yourself? Besides being able to adopt a supposed moral highground of course. I have some things to reevaluate I guess; though I wouldn't go so far to say that that's prompted by this single event.
And maybe, just maybe, I simply regret needlessly taking an innocent life :/
